Richard Hollingham
Richard has reported from an Antarctic crevasse, a rocket launch pad in Kazakhstan and from the wreckage site of a New York air crash. He has interviewed senior politicians, including members of the Bush administration, astronauts and scientists; as well as families living in the slums of Delhi and salt fields of Cambodia.
Richard has broadcast live for most BBC radio outlets, News 24 and World TV and is a frequent contributor to From Our Own Correspondent. In addition to presenting One Planet, recent BBC programmes include a documentary on the Russian space programme where Richard had exclusive access to a once top secret research facility. He has also presented major documentary series on science and international politics, a current affairs documentary from Iceland and feature programmes on the origins of radio, the history of plastics and the art of cinema projection.
Author of Blood and Guts: A History of Surgery and co-author of How to Clone the Perfect Blonde, Richard is also a feature writer for Discover magazine and New Scientist including items on the genetics of the senses, evolution and a light-hearted feature on the creatures lurking in your computer keyboard. Richard has also written for the Independent, Times, Guardian, Mail on Sunday and Times Higher Educational Supplement.
Richard is a TV anchor for the European Space Agency (ESA) covering rocket launches and events. These are complex live multi camera broadcasts, transmitted across Europe. Recent programmes include the launch of Giove-B, Setti Express and Cryosat.
Richard has been involved in several education projects introducing TV news production and podcasting to groups of students. For TV presentation, facilitating and public speaking he can be reached via Kate Moon at Speak-easy (enquiries@speak-easy.co.uk).
